Why I Ride?: I've never been athletic, and still have a hard time seeing myself as an 'athlete'. In fact, when I rode my first HHH ten years ago, my parents were standing there at the finish line, trying to pick their jaws up off the ground because I'd just ridden a bicycle 100 miles. I ride for the challenge, for the health benefits, for the social aspects.....and most of all, for fun. I LOVE to ride! Racing takes the challenge to a new level and is a way to set more specific goals for myself.

Why I Ride?: I have always been a runner and I started riding to spend time with my husband who was an avid rider. My husband bought me my first bike a used pink Principia and I still race on it today. Now, riding is something I do to socialize and to get faster for my other sport, triathlon.

Birth Year: 1964
Occupation: High School Teacher - Northwest Classen HS
Years Riding : 4 Years
Years Racing: 2 Years
USCF Level: CAT 4
Why I Ride?: I am the kind of person that needs a physical outlet.  I was a runner in high school but started riding after having 2 arthroscopic surgeries on my left knee and one on my right due to patella chondromalacia.  My doctor recommended that I ride.  After 26 years on the same old Takara 10-speed a friend recommended that I get a new bike.  I thought that I might like to ride with groups but knew that I would never be able to keep up on my old bike.  I really got hooked after I purchasing my Cannondale.   What I like the most about being on the women's team is riding with other strong women.  They make this sport even more fun.

Why I Ride?: I was born in Hannibal, Missouri. I played basketball and received my Bachelors Degree at Oklahoma State University and my Masters Degree at the University of Oklahoma. No conflict though, I still bleed orange. I have been an educator for 13 years and last year I became the principal of the best high school on the planet, Northwest Classen in OKC. My training is my time for reflection and problem solving for my career and my life. Racing fulfills that competitive spirit that still lives inside of me. I love my Pinarello!

Years Riding : 1 Year
Years Racing: First Year
USCF Level: CAT 4
Why I Ride?: My husband and I started riding to get in shape.  We started out riding hybrids around the lake, and then joined in with the OBS Wednesday evening ride.  We bought road bikes a couple of months later because we were tired of being dropped every week.  Once I got my new bike, my competitive nature took over and I started seeing how many people I could pass during our group ride.  Soon after that, I started participating in the women's developmental rides and was convinced that racing is the best way to get better.

Years Riding : 12 Years
Years Racing: 11 Years
USCF Level: CAT 4
Why I Ride?: I previously raced on inline and quad skates, which qualified and raced USAC Nationals from 1990-1993. After a divorce in 1991, and raising 3 sons, it became very expensive and difficult to make the out of state races. I then raced in local Triathlons (sprint distance) in 1994 and 1995. I swam too slow and didn't like the running. In 1994, I began dating a serious road cyclist and he and his friend, gave me a crash course that winter on real cycling.  It hurt, I loved it, and I got strong by riding with all men. Since then, I have raced road, time trials, some criteriums, mountain bikes, and cyclocross. In addition, my husband, Ralph rides as well, races occasionally and is my pit crew. We also ride our tandem during various tandem rallies. My goal this year is to compete in the USCF Master's Nationals in June (Park City, Utah) racing the road, criterium, and TT. I have really enjoyed racing with the OKC Velo Women this year and have made some close friends.
